Let Your Candle Burn Bright (Holy Thursday 2020)

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me … To give them oil of gladness in place of mourning, a glorious mantle instead of a restless spirit.” Isaiah 61:1,3

Holy Thursday. The first day of the Triduum. The final three days of Lent. In the first reading for today, Isaiah declares that we will be taken care of. In times of trial, in times of suffering, our Lord will be there for us. He became Man to be closer to us. The night of Holy Thursday, He gives to the world the easiest way for us to be close to Him: the Eucharist.

This 2020 Triduum is probably one we have never experienced. These three days will certainly feel dark, lonesome. That’s okay. Nothing is normal right now; our Lord knows that. But he hasn’t abandoned us. This Holy Thursday, take time to reflect upon his presence. He has come to give us gladness in place of mourning. He is here. He has never left you. Is it hard to feel his presence at times? Absolutely. We are all going through dark nights within our souls. However, we can’t let the darkness consume us. Let the Lord light His candle within you. You have to let that flame burn bright.
